Press release issued on behalf of The Organic Pantry

Best meal of the day?

I refer to the negative comments made by Andrew Lansley the new Health secretary about Jamie Oliver’s campaign to bring good food to our schools.

Well, there is one school in West Yorkshire that has noticed a substantial rise in numbers getting their meals at school and that is Boston Spa’s Comprehensive.  The kitchen is run by the dynamic Diane Brown and her enthusiastic team (made up of mainly mothers), who work so very hard to ensure that the children have access to the best local produce on offer which is supplied by The Organic Pantry  run from St Helen’s farm nr Newton Kyme which is only 2 miles away from the school.

Fanny Watson from The Organic Pantry has been supplying fruit and vegetables to the school for 3 yrs now and is so impressed by the enthusiasm and energy that the kitchen staff have put in to producing between 6 – 700 meals per day.

Change does not always happen overnight and Diane found that at first there was negativity towards the new recipes etc, so the staff decided to let the children taste and try – using persuasion, explaining what the ingredients were, where the ingredients came from, and indeed impressing upon the pupils the benefits of a balanced meal so that they gained concentration, therefore maximizing their time at school and indeed keeping their energy for after school activities

Mr Lansley’s comments seem to be ill founded, without studying the full picture  – he should get his own house in order before publicily trying (unsuccessfully) to denounce the fantastic work that people like Jamie and Diane do.
