Why Organic?
Toxic and persistent pesticides used by non-organic farms can end up in the ground, air, water and food supply, and are associated with serious health consequences, from asthma to cancer. Also, some conventional farms give their livestock growth hormones, antibiotics and other drugs that may someday create drug-resistant "super germs" that could threaten human health.
Organicn farmers don't use toxic and persistent pesticides on their crops, so they aren't poisoning our water, soil and food supply. Plus, organic foods may be more nutritious - for instance, research has shown that organic oranges have 30% more vitamin C than the average orange.
In short term, it might appear cheaper to use poisons and chemicals than to use organic farming ethods. But scientists say that non-organic farming costs us billions pounds every year in health care, environmental cleanup and other hidden costs. We can't afford to farm and eat this way for long.
Consumes may notice that organic products cost a little more at the checkout line. That's becouse organic prices more closely reflect the true cost of producing food - there are no hidden costs.
Non-organic farming is quickly damagiang the natural world around us.
For example, synthetic fertilizers leach into our rivers and streams, creating huge "dead zones" in our oceans. Also producing synthetic fertilizers and pesticides release billions tons of carbon dioxide every year affecting on climate change.
To keep their crops healthy, organic farms use time-tested, safe practices such as crop rotation, composting and letting good bugs eat bad bugs. These practices protect our air and water, and allow plants, animals and people to thrive.
